Swimming – Our swimming day this Term is Thursday from 2:00 – 2:45 pm. Our first swimming day will be the 3rd April (this week). Children will need to have their swimming suit, swimming cap and a towel in their swimming bag. Swimming cap is not compulsory but it prevents children from getting head lice in the pool. All of these items will need to be named. Please make sure that your child knows how to get changed and dressed by themselves.
We are a class of year 2 students who are based in Auckland, New Zealand. We love learning, creating and sharing on our class blog. Please take a look around our blog and leave us a positive comment. We look forward to hearing from you!

Netball letter for interested students
Monday
31st March
Dear
Parents/Caregivers
Your
child has indicated an interest in playing Netball for the school in the
Waitakere Netball Competition.
Games
will be played at the following locations:
·
At this stage I have not received any
information regarding the organisation of Year
1-2 netball for this year. I
have heard that it will be played width wise across one third of a court and
there will only be 4 players on the court at one time. There will also be no set positions. Please let me know your thoughts on whether
you are happy to take part. We have
discussed having in-house practices and games for this age group at school
following the traditional netball format. All games will be played on Thursday
evenings from 4:20pm & 5:00pm
·
Games played at Te Pai Courts, Henderson on
Thursday evenings from 4:20pm & 5:00pm for Year 3.
·
Games are played at Te Pai Courts, Henderson on
Saturdays.
·
Year 4 Times: 8:30am & 9:20am
·
Year 5 Times: 9:20am, 10:10am & 11:00am
·
Year 6 Times: 11:50am, 12:40am & 1:30pm
Until
the structure of the Year 1 and 2 netball season is confirmed I am unable to
provide an indication of fees for the season.
The cost per player for Year 3 will
be $50, for Year 4 the cost will be
$60 and for Year 5 and 6 the cost
will be $75. The fees for Year 5 and
6 include the cost of hiring umpires for games.
We need keen people who would like to help by coaching
and managing teams. So, if your child
would like to play and you are able to coach please complete the online registration
form by going to the Arahoe School webpage and clicking on the netball
registration button on the right hand side.
Registrations will close on Tuesday
8th April.
Again
this will only be possible with the support of parents. If we do not get coaches and players for the
different age groups then we will not be able to field teams.
Thanks

Green Day Muffin Order
We had a good day at school today, we enjoyed our green assembly and we had fun looking at different green costumes that other children wore to school.
One thing, however, that didn't go according to the plan was our muffin order. Our food basket disappeared with our muffins. Children got their sausage, ice block orders and drink orders (in the end) but the muffins didn't find its way back to our classroom. We are very sorry that children with their muffin order didn't get their muffin and it will be reimbursed on Monday.
Apologies,
Adele, Rebecca and PSG
No Swimming Week 8 and 9
Ara Pakeke is beginning the Skills for Life Swimming tuition next week. This is an intensive programme involving 1 hour of swimming per class each day, and will last for 4 weeks.
For Weeks 8 and 9, the timetable takes the duration of the day and Ara Pakeke will need all of the slots on the swimming timetable. So unfortunately this means Room 15 won't be swimming for weeks 8 and 9.
In Weeks 10 and 11, the pool will be available in the afternoons as we will finish at 12.
Thanks for your consideration and accommodation,
Matt Moncur and Ara Pakeke

Milk Notice
While getting free milk has been fun for most children, some of our children have been refusing to drink their milk at school without their parent consent. I have asked these children to have a sip then throw the rest away but next week onwards, I will be asking all children who are drinking their milk to aim to finish their milk.
Last week, a notice went out to parents asking to return the slip if they don't wish for their child to have their milk. Please have a talk with your child about drinking milk again and if you decide that you wish for your child not to have milk at school, please return this slip to me. If you have lost your notice, there is a sample of this notice on the class notice board and on our door that you can copy.

Spelling Homework
Spelling Homework
Dear Parents,
We will be starting our spelling homework from the 7th
of March. Your child will get a spelling list to learn for the whole term glued
at the back of their home reading notebook. These spelling words have been
chosen from the essential spelling list. It is expected that your child
practise their list at least four times a week so that the new learning gets
transferred to their long term memory.
On Thursdays, your child will be tested and the mark will be recorded next to the list for you to see. The whole list is tested once a term and your child will be given a new list if he/she scores higher than 90%, if below 90% the same list will be repeated for the next term.
Thank you.
